We hope you find this site informative and useful.
You have arrived at The Cherokee Strip, that was officially opened for settlement at 12:00 noon, September 16, 1983. Land in tracts of 160 acres each became the property of the person who first laid claim to it by staking his claim on the land and then filing an Official Notice of his claim at the land office.
Those who made the "run" legally were called "Boomers". Those who entered the strip early, before it was officially opened, were called "Sooners". There is no longer any stigma attached to the word "Sooner" and now all residents of Oklahoma proudly refer to themselves as "Sooners".
Please visit downtown Perry and see our beautiful Courthouse and Square. Perry is also the home of Charles Machine Works, maker of the Ditch Witch Trencher and of Perry High School with a National record of 37 State Championship Wrestling Teams with over 141 Individual State Champions.
Here at Sooner's Corner we offer many services: a full service restaurant, a 24 hour convenience store, a 10 room motel with clean rooms and low prices and an RV Park with 16 pull-thrus or concrete pads and space for 10 mobile homes where you pay your own electricity and a Full Service Truck and Auto Repair Center that offers tires, oil changes, tune ups, road side services and most anything the Traveler needs.
